Availability Of Content Standards Of The National Council Of Mathematics Teachers (Nctm): Applied Study In Mathematics Courses For Grades 6, 7 And 8 In Oman: Analytical Descriptive Study

Abstract

This analytical study aims at diagnosing the availability of content standards issued by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) in the content of mathematics books in the Sultanate, which is scheduled for the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. The problem is shown in the low scores of eighth graders in Oman in the International Mathematics and Science Test (TIMSS), with 19% of students answering this question. In addition to the fact that the researcher teach mathematics books in the second cycle of basic education, in response to the recommendations of the studies, and the recommendations of the conferences and seminars, it became necessary to develop mathematics courses in the Sultanate of Oman. Using the analysis card for the field of “numbers and operations” that contain (3) criteria and (14) indicators; the content of the eighth grade showed less content consistent with (NCTM) standards, where (5) Indicators were not available. In the sixth grade, (4) indicators were not available and (3) Indicators in seventh grade were missing. The researcher recommended the need to develop mathematics courses for grades 6, 7 and 8.

تهدف هذه الدراسة التحليلية، إلى تشخيص مدى توافر معايير المحتوى الصادرة عن المجلس القومي لمعلمي الرياضيات (NCTM)؛ في محتوى كتب الرياضيات بالسلطنة والمقررة على صفوف السادس والسابع والثامن. تظهر المشكلة في تدني النتائج التحصيلية للرياضيات لطلاب الصف الثامن بالسلطنة، في اختبار TIMSS)) الدولي للرياضيات والعلوم، حين أجاب 19% من الطلبة عن سؤال ورد فيه كما أن معايشة الباحث لكتب الرياضيات في الحلقة الثانية من التعليم الأساسي، واستجابة لتوصيات الدراسات، وتوصيات المؤتمرات والندوات؛ فقد أصبح من الضروري تطوير مقررات الرياضيات في سلطنة عمان. ومن خلال منهج تحليل المحتوى لمقررات الرياضيات للفصول الثلاثة. وباستخدام بطاقة التحليل لمجال الأعداد والعمليات التي تحتوي على (3) معايير و (14) مؤشرا؛ ظهر أن محتوى الصف الثامن أقل المحتويات اتساقا مع معايير (NCTM)، حيث لم تتوافر فيه (5) مؤشرات. وفي الصف السادس لم تتوافر (4) مؤشرات. وغابت (3) مؤشرات في مقرر الفصل السابع. أوصى الباحث ضرورة تطوير مقررات الرياضيات للصفوف السادس والسابع والثامن.
