Abstract

A sexual orientation disturbance: gay and lesbian group appears to be a social issue which is significantly related to an unhealthy life. Nowadays, many youth and adolescent are practicing this kind of unhealthy behaviour and lifestyle. This situation is considered as crucial and needed a major attention. This kind of behavior is absolutely against our social norm, nature, and religious. However, there are several people from this group opt to making a change and turn back to their true nature of sexual orientation and identity. Therefore, the counseling services provided by counselors is a medium to help them reach a healthy social wellbeing. To help this minority group, the Person-Centered Therapy approach is believed to be highly effective and able to facilitate a change among gay and lesbian as it comes with humanistic and positive psychology effects. Moreover, Person-Centered Therapy aims to provide therapeutic intervention, effective treatment and psychological supports for the group and lead them for a change. Thus, the objective of this concept paper is to discuss about the concept of the therapy and it relations to positive psychology components in facilitatating the cases for gay and lesbian in counseling session. In addition, the use of therapy approach, strategy and analysis of the multicultural competence model were discussed in this paper. For this paper, a document analysis was used as a qualitative approach to gether the relevant information and review the therapy approaches. Abstrak Kecelaruan orientasi seksual golongan gay dan lesbian menjadi salah satu isu sosial yang menjurus kepada kehidupan gaya hidup yang tidak sihat. Kini, keadaan amat membimbangkan apabila ramai remaja dan dewasa terpengaruh dengan gaya hidup dan tingkah laku songsang yang bertentangan dengan norma sosial, fitrah dan agama ini. Namun begitu, terdapat juga golongan ini yang memilih untuk berubah dan kembali kepada fitrah dan identiti asal mereka. Sehubungan itu, perkhidmatan kaunseling oleh para kaunselor merupakan satu medium untuk membantu golongan ini berubah ke arah kesejahteraan sosial. Bagi membantu golongan minoriti ini, pendekatan Terapi Pemusatan Insan (Person-Centered Therapy) yang bersifat humanistik dan menekankan unsur positif psikologi dilihat mampu mewujudkan intervensi terapeutik, kesan rawatan efektif dan sokongan psikologi bagi membantu golongan ini untuk pulang ke pangkal jalan. Objektif kertas konsep ini bertujuan untuk memperkenalkan konsep Terapi Pemusatan Insan serta elemen positif psikologi dalam memahami dan membantu mengendalikan kes klien gay dan lesbian. Selain itu, pendekatan dan strategi terapi serta analisis model kecekapan silang budaya juga turut dibincangkan bagi membantu pemahaman individu yang berkerja dalam profesion menolong untuk berhadapan dengan golongan ini. Bagi penulisan artikel ini, kaedah kualitatif berbentuk analisis dokumen telah digunakan bagi mencari maklumat releven dan menghuraikan pendekatan terapi.
